Under Watchful Eyes, On Bosh Briefly

Chris Bosh faced the media in Toronto yesterday amid allegations that he was a “deadbeat dad”. He handled the throng of reporters well, I mean it was awkward as hell (you could hear nothing but basketballs bouncing in the background), but he was in decent spirits and it was his birthday.
“All I can say is I’m willing to take care of my responsibilities like I’ve been doing in the past and in the future and have respect for everyone,” Bosh told reporters Tuesday. “I love my daughter, I love myself and I respect her mother.”
This will all likely sit somewhere simmering for a good while, and the truth will play out in court. I’ll say this though regarding newspaper headlines: If Chris Bosh were a Toronto Maple Leaf, that “deadbeat dad” would likely be an estranged father. Read what you will into that.

True, the media is quick to slot basketball players into the gangsta life while hockey players get off with a “boys will be boys” slap on the wrist. No one wants to play the race card but I’m sure if we did a comparison the proof would be in the pudding…

Yes! Somebody had to say it, it’s so true. It would be a totally different story if it was a “Leaf” for lack of a whiter word then the headlines would read a bit differently i’m sure.
As a black person and Toronto lifer,it hurt to see the Star and Sun quickly jump to conclusions and label Bosh, or anyone for that matter as a “deadbeat”.

It looks like I got my point across. Newspapers are (make that were) big business, and it’s a case of printing controversial headlines in effort to drum up sales. Still though, it’s garbage. Bosh spoke his piece, and delivered it well, time will tell.
